Carolyn is a graduate from the Victorian College of the arts where she studied at both secondary and tertiary level under the directorship of Anne Woolliams.
Carolyn’s passion for character dance began at VCA, and under the tutelage of Alida Segal, she had the opportunity to take classes with the Moiseyev School of National and Character dance in Russia. She also participated in classes and performances with Kolobok Dance Company and performed with QUJ Tanzinhaz Hungarian Folk Dance Ensemble. As a dancer, Carolyn enjoyed seasons with the Israel Ballet before returning to Australia to broaden her horizons as an actor.
In 2017 Carolyn returned to Moscow with a group of teachers to observe teaching practice and company rehearsals with the Moiseyev Company and school. As a teacher Carolyn has taught character, drama and creative dance at many leading dance institutions for both vocational and recreational students. She is also a regular on character dance examination panels and is thrilled to be teaching Alida Segal’s International Character Dance Syllabus.
Alongside her vast dance training and experience, Carolyn is also an actor and appears regularly in theatre and television productions, runs her own theatre company The Shift Theatre and works as the Associate Director of Rollercoaster Theatre- an inclusive theatre company. Over the years Carolyn has also become involved with students in rural areas devising performing arts experiences, and is passionate about creating accessible and inclusive arts projects that bridge social inclusion and artistic mainstreams.
